Nationwide Protests Erupt Over Doctor's Tragic Death

The Union Home Ministry requests bi-hourly reports from state police amid widespread protests over the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Protests by medical staff have disrupted health services, demanding stronger laws for their protection.

The Union Home Ministry has ordered all state police forces to submit situation reports every two hours following widespread protests by doctors, nursing staff, and others. The protests erupted over the alleged rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

In its communication, the Home Ministry emphasized that the law and order situation in all states must be closely monitored due to the escalating protests.

'A continuous two-hourly law and order situation report may kindly be sent to the MHA control room (New Delhi) via Fax, Email, or WhatsApp starting from 1600 hours today,' the ministry's communication stated.

On August 9, a postgraduate trainee doctor was allegedly raped and murdered while on duty at the hospital. A civic volunteer of Kolkata Police was arrested in connection with the crime the following day. Subsequently, the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the CBI.

Protesting women vandalized parts of the hospital shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Medical staff protests have spread nationwide, impacting healthcare services. Their demands include a central law to curb violence against healthcare workers and enhanced hospital security.
