India has stepped forward to assist Sri Lanka by donating much-needed medicines amid significant shortages, the Indian High Commission announced on Thursday.
In response to a crucial request from Colombo, India provided 50,000 ampoules of Furosemide injection to Sri Lankan hospitals. This aid package was handed over by High Commissioner Santosh Jha to Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa.
Previously, during the COVID-19 pandemic, India showed solidarity by delivering over 25 tonnes of medicines, half a million Covishield vaccines, and antigen tests. Furthermore, a $1 billion credit line was extended to combat the economic crisis, underlining India's commitment to support Sri Lanka's healthcare sector.
