FDA Cracks Down on Festive Food Safety

The Maharashtra FDA will conduct surprise inspections in eateries and bars during the festive season to curb food adulteration and ensure compliance with safety norms. The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is stepping up its inspections of eateries, bars, and restaurants as the festive period approaches, Maharashtra minister Narhari Zirwal announced. Surprise checks will be conducted until December 31 to detect any food adulteration and ensure that establishments comply with health and safety regulations.

Special teams have been assigned the task of collecting food samples to check for quality and adherence to packaging and service standards. In particular, the inspections are focusing on the repurposing of food items, the quality of food packaging, lighting conditions in atmospherically dim establishments, and the operational standards of food delivery services.

Minister Zirwal emphasized that any establishment caught violating standards will face stringent penalties, including potential licence suspensions for restaurants found mismanaging their services. Patrons are urged to report any issues with food services, as the government may expand the guidelines and inspections as required.
