AIIMS Delhi has achieved a significant breakthrough in stroke care by leading the country's first dedicated clinical trial of a novel brain stent specifically engineered for severe stroke treatment.
The GRASSROOT trial assessed the Supernova stent, developed by Gravity Medical Technology, and reported outstanding safety and effectiveness outcomes, according to officials. The findings, published in the Journal of Neurointerventional Surgery, highlight India's capacity to engineer and test world-class stroke treatment devices domestically.
Approved for routine use in India following consent from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation, the stent is a milestone for the Make-in-India initiative and positions the country as a global player in advanced stroke care, experts say.
