The Spanish Health Ministry has confirmed that the MV Hondius vessel will arrive in the Canary Islands, adhering to international law and humanitarian standards. The decision was announced on Tuesday evening.
Upon arrival, medical teams will be dispatched to evaluate and attend to the needs of all passengers and crew members. Subsequently, arrangements will be made for their safe repatriation to their respective countries.
The World Health Organization has indicated that Cape Verde lacks the necessary resources to handle this operation. Consequently, Spain recognizes both a moral and legal responsibility, particularly with the presence of Spanish citizens on board, to provide assistance.
