Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has approached the Lahore High Court to challenge her arrest in a third Toshakhana case. According to a report by Dawn, Bushra Bibi filed her petition through Advocate Sardar Latif Khosa.
The petition argues that both Bushra Bibi and her husband had previously been granted bail in the Toshakhana case but were rearrested with 'malicious intent.' The document also alleges that Bushra Bibi was subjected to assault and humiliation by female officials during her arrest at Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. She further claims that she was imprisoned without a warrant, in an act of political victimization.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan has filed a separate petition in the Lahore High Court seeking details of all cases against him. Khan, who has been detained in Adiala Jail since August 2023 on multiple charges, including the Toshakhana case, adds that his wife has also been behind bars for months. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had extended the physical remand of the couple by 10 days in the Toshakhana case, as per a Geo News report.
During a recent hearing, a clash erupted between Imran Khan and the NAB prosecutor general. Khan accused the officials of persecuting his wife without justification as she was not a public officeholder. The court has adjourned the proceedings until August 8, instructing the NAB team to present both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi at the next hearing.
