The Swaminarayan Temple in Melbourne's Boronia suburb became a target of racial vandalism, reportedly sprayed with hate-filled slurs such as 'Go Home Brown C**t', as per The Australia Today. Nearby Asian-operated restaurants suffered similar attacks. The President of the Hindu Council of Australia's Victoria chapter, Makrand Bhagwat, expressed profound shock and described this as an affront to religious freedom and the community's identity.
Premier Jacinta Allan has not made a public statement condemning the vandalism but conveyed a personal message to the temple's leadership, calling the act hateful and deeply unsettling. She affirmed that the Victorian government condemns such activities and stands with the attacked community. State Police assured that they are comprehensively investigating the incidents.
The incidents are part of a worrying trend, highlighted by a separate racist assault on Charanpreet Singh in Adelaide, who was attacked by a group over a parking dispute. As communities respond with calls for peace and solidarity, police continue their investigation into these hate crimes.
