A devastating explosion occurred late Thursday night, obliterating a government primary school in North Waziristan's Mir Ali tehsil, leaving over 600 children without a place to study.
Unidentified attackers planted explosives at the Government Primary School in Ayaz Kot, Khushhali village, drastically damaging the structure, halting education as reported by The Express Tribune.
District education officials highlighted that the school was the area's only functional primary institution, pivotal for hundreds of students. Post-blast, authorities sealed the site, contemplating temporary learning spaces.
Community elders and parents expressed outrage and called the attack a sabotage attempt on children's futures. A community elder remarked, "This school was our heart, an attack on our dreams." The incident underscored challenges in securing public institutions in violence-prone North Waziristan.
Security forces launched a search operation with the area cordoned off, yet no responsibility has been claimed. The district administration termed the bombing an "anti-education act," saying such attacks hinder peace and development.
Authorities vowed to capture the culprits soon, with police collecting evidence and awaiting bomb disposal unit analysis. Initial reports suggest a remote or timer-triggered device caused the explosion, as per The Express Tribune.
