Bangladesh and India to Convene for Key Border Talks in New Delhi
Top border officials from Bangladesh and India are set to meet in New Delhi for Director General-level border talks. This significant meeting marks the first since the BNP came to power. The Bangladeshi delegation, led by Major General Siddiqui, will discuss crucial border security issues with Indian counterparts.
For the first time since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party assumed power under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Bangladesh and India are gearing up to engage in significant talks over border security. The high-level discussions will take place in New Delhi on June 8 as part of the routine biannual Director General-level border talks.
According to a statement released by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday, the four-day 57th Director General-level conference is scheduled to run from June 8 to June 11, 2026, in the Indian capital. The Bangladeshi team, comprising 15 members, will be led by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, the Director General of BGB.
The delegation will feature senior BGB officials and key representatives from various government sectors, including the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministries of Home Affairs, Foreign Affairs, and Shipping, among others. Meanwhile, their Indian counterparts will be led by the Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), exploring avenues for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
