The Assam Rifles organised an event for its ex-servicemen in Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district to acknowledge their contribution, an official statement said on Sunday.

Over 300 veterans, their families, gallantry awardees, 'veer naris' and others from all the districts of the state attended the event organised here on Saturday under the theme “Serving Those Who Served Us”.

Additional Director General Assam Rifles Major General Dinesh Kumar Singh who was the chief guest of the programme lauded the contribution of the veterans and the serving soldiers of Himachal Pradesh who have contributed immensely to ensure the security and prosperity of the northeast and the country. The veterans were informed about various beneficiary schemes including recruitment rallies, sports quota for recruitment in the Assam Rifles, reservation in various educational institutes, hostels, Ayushman Bharat and extension of Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), the statement said.

Major General Singh also highlighted the conception of an ex-servicemen (ESM) cell at the unit level, the adoption of veer naris and disabled veterans and outreach programme. He also felicitated veer naris, gallantry awardees and other ex-servicemen on the occasion. The event also provided a platform for registration of grievances and their immediate redressal, it said.
