Congress Demands Updated Census for True Social Justice

The Congress on Monday pressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to swiftly announce when the updated census will be conducted. They stressed the necessity of including data on Other Backward Classes (OBCs) to fulfill the social justice mandate of the Constitution.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the significance of the decennial census, highlighting that it is pivotal for socioeconomic development. He pointed out the detrimental impact of the incomplete 2021 census, which has left at least 14 crore Indians without access to benefits under the National Food Security Act, 2013, now branded as PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.

Ramesh insisted, 'The 'one-third' prime minister must inform the nation soon about the updated census schedule,' adding that the inclusion of OBC data would truly honor the social justice principles embedded in the Constitution.
