The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has firmly dismissed claims made by French journalist Sebastien Farcis, who alleged he was 'forced to leave' India.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal clarified that Farcis' renewal application for his work permit remains under active consideration. Farcis, holding an Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card, requires specific approval to continue his journalistic endeavors in the country.
'He reapplied for his work permit renewal in May 2024, and as far as I know, his case is still being reviewed. He retains the right to leave the country at his own discretion,' said Jaiswal.
Claiming on social media platform X, Farcis stated he was 'forced to leave' after the Union home ministry declined to renew his permit. Known for his role as the South Asia correspondent for various European media outlets, Farcis asserted he had been compliant with all visa and accreditation requirements since 2011.
Notably, in February, another French journalist, Vanessa Dougnac, exited India following the cancellation of her OCI card by the government.
