Tamil Nadu CM Urges Swift Action for Release of Fishermen Detained by Sri Lanka

Thirteen Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan authorities, and their three boats were seized. Chief Minister M K Stalin has appealed to the Centre for swift action, highlighting the severe livelihood crisis faced by fishermen with 173 boats and 80 fishermen currently detained.

In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Stalin detailed the severe crisis fishermen are facing, noting that 173 fishing boats and 80 fishermen are currently detained by Sri Lanka.

Stalin implored the Ministry of External Affairs for a coordinated effort and the activation of diplomatic channels to secure the immediate release of all detained fishermen and their boats, emphasizing the immense distress caused to their families.
