Thirteen Tamil Nadu fishermen were arrested by Sri Lankan authorities on Thursday, with their three boats also seized. Chief Minister M K Stalin conveyed the need for swift intervention to the Centre.
In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Stalin detailed the severe crisis fishermen are facing, noting that 173 fishing boats and 80 fishermen are currently detained by Sri Lanka.
Stalin implored the Ministry of External Affairs for a coordinated effort and the activation of diplomatic channels to secure the immediate release of all detained fishermen and their boats, emphasizing the immense distress caused to their families.
