Rising Tensions: Abbas Blames Israel and Hamas for Gaza Attack

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has attributed responsibility for a deadly Gaza attack to Israel, the United States, and Hamas, escalating tensions between his Fatah faction and the Islamist group. Abbas’s pointed remarks come as Hamas accuses him of aligning with Israel.

According to the Gaza health ministry, the strike, which targeted Hamas military chief Mohammad Deif, resulted in at least 90 Palestinian deaths and 300 injuries. Abbas condemned the attack and held the Israeli government and U.S. administration accountable for supporting the occupation and its actions.

Abbas also held Hamas partially responsible, citing their actions on October 7th and their evasion of national unity. Hamas officials, including Sami Abu Zuhri and Basem Naim, criticized Abbas, accusing him of complicity with Israeli actions. Attempts at reconciliation mediated by Arab nations have yet to resolve the internal Palestinian divide.
