BJP MLA Demands Shopkeepers Display Names Amid Controversy

BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola from Indore-2 has urged the Madhya Pradesh government to mandate shopkeepers to display their names, following similar orders in Uttar Pradesh. Mendola believes this will instill pride among traders. The proposal has attracted criticism, with opponents alleging it unfairly targets Muslim traders.

In a recent development, BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola from Indore-2 has called on the Madhya Pradesh government to make it mandatory for all shopkeepers to display their names outside their shops. This demand follows a controversial order by the Uttar Pradesh government requiring eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to do the same.

Mendola articulated his stance in a letter to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, asserting, 'The name of any person is his identity. A person is proud of his name. Asking for the name is the customer's right and the shopkeeper should be proud to tell his name, not be ashamed.'

The four-time legislator emphasized that every trader in Madhya Pradesh should feel a sense of pride in displaying their names. 'I have written a letter to the Chief Minister requesting to issue an order for this mandate. I urge the government to frame rules accordingly,' he added. This proposal comes amidst backlash from opposition parties, who argue that the directive targets Muslim traders unfairly.
