Government Introduces Progressive Aviation Bill

The Indian government introduced the Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill 2024 in Lok Sabha to replace the outdated Aircraft Act of 1934. The bill aims to streamline aviation regulations, support self-reliance in aircraft manufacturing, and improve business ease. Key provisions include transferring certification responsibilities from the DoT to the DGCA.

In a significant move to modernize aviation regulations, the government introduced the Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak Bill 2024 in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, aiming to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act.

The bill, championed by Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, seeks to eliminate regulatory redundancies and align India's aviation sector with global standards amid its rapid growth. It also promotes the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative by focusing on domestic production and maintenance capabilities.

Notably, the bill transfers the issuance of Radio Telephone Operator (Restricted) Certificates from the Department of Telecommunications to the DGCA under the civil aviation ministry, simplifying pilot training procedures.
