The Supreme Court on Monday granted pre-arrest bail to Yadav Singh, the former chief engineer of the Noida Authority, protecting him from arrest by the CBI in a significant corruption case. Allegedly, Singh executed 1,280 maintenance contracts totaling Rs 954 crore within just eight days in December 2011.
A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and R Mahadevan instructed Singh to report to the investigating officer on the 7th day of each month and fully cooperate with the trial process. Concerns were raised by the Additional Solicitor General, Vikramjeet Banerjee, representing the CBI, about the potential risk of Singh fleeing the country.
However, Senior Advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, appearing on behalf of Singh, assured the court that Singh had already surrendered his passport to the CBI. The bench declared that if authorities wish to arrest Singh, he should be released on bail upon furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 with two local sureties. This decision follows an earlier bail granted by the Supreme Court in 2019, related to a money laundering case linked to the corruption allegations.
