The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal, leading Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to enforce the National Green Tribunal's (NGT) directive to demolish 29 illegally constructed bungalows along the Indrayani river.
Local environmental activist Tanaji Gambhire had filed a petition against the River Villa project, claiming the constructions violated the blue line regulation that prohibits development near rivers. The project, executed by M/s Jare World and M/s V Square, is situated in Chikhali village. The NGT had ordered on July 1, 2024, for the demolition and imposed a Rs 5 crore fine for environmental damage.
Respondents sought relief from the Supreme Court but were denied, confirmed a PCMC official. PCMC will now proceed according to the NGT's instructions.
