Bangladesh's interim government on Sunday issued a stern warning to media organisations, stating that they will be shut down if they publish or broadcast false or misleading news, in a move aimed at curbing the spread of misinformation.

Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain emphasized that accurate media reporting is crucial for the nation's well-being during his visit to injured policemen at Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital. He highlighted that a lack of truthful reporting contributed to recent turmoil involving the police, as reported by the Dhaka Tribune.

Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology adviser Nahid Islam addressed the press at the Secretariat, pledging action against officials responsible for recent internet shutdowns during student protests. Islam underscored that internet access is a human right and that unwarranted disruptions will not be tolerated, according to the Daily Star.
