The BJP on Thursday demanded the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the vandalism at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where junior doctors were protesting the alleged rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee last week.
TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee condemned the hooliganism and called for the police to arrest perpetrators regardless of political ties within a day. The BJP criticized the police for failing to prevent the incident and accused them of scapegoating the movement and media.
The Calcutta High Court has transferred the investigation from the Kolkata Police to the CBI, and the SUCI(Communist) has called for a general strike in West Bengal on August 16 to protest the hospital vandalism.
