Jordanian Citizen Threatens U.S. Businesses Over Israel Support

A Jordanian citizen residing in Orlando, Florida, has been charged with threatening to use explosives and the destruction of an energy facility, targeting businesses for their perceived support of Israel, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

The incident highlights rising hate crimes against diverse groups since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7th, leading to a prolonged Israeli military operation in Gaza causing a humanitarian crisis.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland stated, 'We allege that the defendant threatened to carry out hate-fueled mass violence in our country, motivated in part by a desire to target businesses for their perceived support of Israel.'

The accused, identified as 43-year-old Hashem Younis Hashem Hnaihen, allegedly targeted local businesses, wearing a mask and leaving warning letters. His actions caused over $700,000 in damages, and he was arrested on July 11th. If convicted, Hnaihen faces up to 10 years in prison for each threat offense and up to 20 years for the destruction of an energy facility.

FBI Director Christopher Wray confirmed that Hnaihen's alleged actions included attacking a power facility and inflicting substantial financial damage on local businesses.
