Police Foil Suicide Attempt by Handcuffed Offender in Thane

In a swift and timely intervention, police officers in Ambarnath, Maharashtra, have thwarted a suicide attempt by Jamil Rajiullah Khan, a history-sheeter lodged in the local lock-up, according to an official statement on Friday.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, saw Khan, a 48-year-old habitual offender, attempting to hang himself using a blanket. Police officers acted quickly to prevent the act.

During the rescue, Khan reportedly assaulted several officers, tearing their uniforms and hurling abuses. Consequently, he faces additional charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections for assault, criminal force, and criminal intimidation. This brings the total number of offenses registered against him to eight.
