The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a new 'Pact for the Future,' which U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres hailed as a landmark agreement that marks a significant shift towards more effective, inclusive, and interconnected multilateralism.

The pact, which features provisions for a responsible and sustainable digital future, was adopted without a vote at the commencement of a two-day Summit of the Future. The agreement is the result of nine months of negotiations. 'We are here to bring multilateralism back from the brink,' Guterres said at the summit.

Guterres, who has been a long-time advocate for the summit and the pact, highlighted the importance of the new agreement, which covers a broad spectrum of themes including peace and security, global governance, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, and gender equality. In total, the pact lays out 56 broad actions that countries have pledged to achieve.
