Manipur CM Urges Swift Action for Abducted Youths' Release

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that efforts are underway to secure the release of two youths allegedly abducted by militants in Kangpokpi district. While one youth has been liberated, the government is in touch with the Centre to ensure the safe release of the remaining two. The DGP is leading the negotiation efforts.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed on Monday that the director general of police has been assigned to ensure the release of two youths who were allegedly abducted by militants in Kangpokpi district three days ago.

'The government is actively working to secure their release,' Singh stated. 'This unfortunate incident involves three youths, one of whom has been released. The Centre and the state government are collaborating to guarantee the safe release of the remaining two. Current talks are ongoing,' he told reporters during the 128th birth anniversary of Jana Neta Hijam Irabot.

Accompanied by his two friends, N. Johnson Singh, who was rescued by the army, mistakenly entered Kuki-dominated Kangpokpi while heading for the SSC GD recruitment test in Imphal West district, according to police. Originating from Thoubal district, the trio was allegedly abducted by armed men. Singh informed that the DGP is personally negotiating with the abductors. 'We are hopeful for a positive outcome,' he added. 'They have made some demands, but we aim to release the two youths unconditionally.' Manipur's security forces are making extensive efforts to locate the missing youths.
