Israeli forces targeted a U.N. peacekeeper watchtower in south Lebanon on Wednesday, according to a U.N. source speaking with Reuters. The attack, one of three incidents within 24 hours, led to injuries for two UNIFIL peacekeepers, though they were not seriously hurt.
The watchtower at Naqoura, the main base for the UNIFIL peacekeeping force, was hit by Israeli fire, raising concerns over escalating tensions in the region. Wednesday's incident followed another confrontation involving Israeli small arms fire against UNIFIL positions.
In the wake of these events, the U.N. is monitoring the situation closely, as no casualties have been reported from the other two incidents. The continued strain on peacekeeping efforts highlights ongoing regional instability.
