A heated altercation erupted during a cooperative bank election in Uttar Pradesh between BJP MLA Yogesh Verma and lawyer Awadhesh Singh. The incident reportedly stemmed from allegations of election rule violations, sparking serious concerns within the BJP's state leadership.
The clash unfolded in Lakhimpur Kheri where Verma accused Singh of manhandling him after an argument over torn nomination papers emerged. The altercation, witnessed by many, resulted in a swift response from the BJP hierarchy.
BJP general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla addressed the situation by issuing show-cause notices to Awadhesh Singh, his wife, and two additional individuals, demanding an explanation for their 'indisciplined behaviour' within two days. The cooperative bank election has since been postponed.
