The Israeli military reported that a rocket was fired from Gaza and landed back within the territory late Thursday, highlighting the fragility of the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
This incident is reportedly the first of its kind since the ceasefire took effect on January 19. Neither Hamas nor the smaller Islamic Jihad group has commented on the event.
The origin of the rocket launch within Gaza remains unspecified. In the past, Hamas launched multiple rockets from Gaza daily, a frequency that diminished over the 15-month conflict. Despite the ceasefire, Israeli actions have resulted in the deaths of at least 92 Palestinians and more than 800 injuries, according to Munir al-Bursh, a Health Ministry official. The Israeli military claims its actions target individuals violating truce terms.
