In Telangana, the state government's decision to grant Muslim employees an hour's early leave during the holy month of Ramzan has drawn criticism from the opposition BJP, labeling the move as appeasement politics.
Hitting out on social media, BJP MLA Raja Singh questioned why similar measures are not available during Hindu festivals, insisting on equal rights. In response, the government's adviser on minority affairs, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, clarified that the provision is a well-established practice extending to other festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi.
The ruling party urged focus on the longstanding tradition of accommodating festival needs, regardless of community, emphasizing government duties towards citizens during festive times.
