A soldier was injured on Saturday following an accidental landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC), according to officials.

In a separate incident the same day, army personnel discovered an old, rusted mortar in a village in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.

The mishap occurred around 10:50 am in the Nangi-Takeri area of Krishna Ghati sector in Mendhar as the Army conducted patrol duty. The soldier injured in the explosion was promptly taken to a medical facility.

Officials noted that forward areas, part of an anti-infiltration obstacle setup, contain landmines that sometimes get displaced by rain, leading to such accidents.

Additionally, army troops on area domination patrol discovered the rusted mortar in Fazalabad village, Surankote. The surrounding area was secured, and the shell was safely defused by army experts.
