Justice Joymalya Bagchi Joins Supreme Court's Ranks
Justice Joymalya Bagchi, previously a judge of the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed to the Supreme Court of India. Announced by the Law Minister, his tenure in the Supreme Court will last over six years, eventually leading to his role as Chief Justice of India until October 2031.

Justice Joymalya Bagchi, a respected judge from the Calcutta High Court, is set to join the elite ranks of the Supreme Court of India. His appointment was confirmed by Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal via social media platform X.
Having served in the judicial system for over 13 years, Justice Bagchi brings a wealth of legal expertise to the apex court. His tenure will exceed six years, during which he will also assume the prestigious position of Chief Justice of India following Justice K V Viswanathan's retirement in May 2031.
The addition of Justice Bagchi ensures that the Supreme Court will soon operate with 33 judges, just one short of its full sanctioned capacity. His vast experience across various legal domains makes him a valuable asset to the Indian judiciary.
