Angola Brokers Peace: Congo and M23 Rebels to Hold Direct Talks
The Democratic Republic of Congo and M23 rebels are set to engage in direct peace talks in Angola's capital on March 18. Angola has been mediating to establish a ceasefire and to ease tensions involving Rwanda, which is accused but denies backing the rebels.

In an effort to mediate peace, Angola will facilitate direct talks between the Democratic Republic of Congo and M23 rebels, initiated on March 18 in Luanda. This development was confirmed by Angola's presidency on Wednesday.
Despite allegations from Congo that Rwanda supports the Tutsi-led rebel group, Rwanda has consistently denied these accusations. Angola is stepping up as a mediator to de-escalate the persisting tensions between Congo and Rwanda.
The Congo government has previously refused negotiations with M23, and only acknowledged Angola's initiative without further comments. The talks are seen as a critical move towards achieving a durable ceasefire in the region.
