Alertness Could Have Prevented Nagpur Unrest, Says Senior Congress Leader
Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai criticized the police for their lack of alertness, which he claims could have prevented last week's violence in Nagpur. The unrest followed a VHP-Bajrang Dal protest, during which rumors of a desecrated 'chadar' were spread, leading to clashes. Dalwai calls for an impartial investigation.

Senior Congress leader Hussain Dalwai criticized the Nagpur police for their lack of vigilance, attributing it to the violent unrest that erupted in the city last week. The former Rajya Sabha MP was part of a fact-finding committee set up by the opposition following the violence on March 17.
Dalwai questioned the police's decision to permit protestors from the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal to burn an effigy during their demonstration. Normally, the police do not allow such actions, he noted to the media.
The violence was sparked by rumors of a 'chadar' with holy inscriptions being burned, following a protest demanding the removal of Emperor Aurangzeb's tomb. While police later clarified the rumors were false, Dalwai insisted a more alert police force could have prevented the unrest.
