In a significant diplomatic move, French President Emmanuel Macron announced his willingness to gradually lift European Union sanctions on Syria. The precondition for this progressive action is Syria's adherence to its current political path.
During a high-profile meeting in Paris with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, Macron emphasized his strategy. "I told the president that if he continues on his path, we would do the same. Namely by first progressively lifting European sanctions," he stated.
Macron also expressed his intent to engage with the United States, lobbying them to mirror this policy adjustment. The move highlights France's role in shaping international diplomatic efforts with Syria.
