Diplomatic Efforts Strained Amid Stalled Ceasefire
Russia dismisses a proposed ceasefire negotiated by Ukraine and European powers. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha discusses potential sanctions against Russia with European and U.S. officials. Plans for new defense aid to Ukraine and continued peace talks are in the works.

The delicate diplomatic negotiations surrounding a proposed 30-day ceasefire were thrown into disarray as Russia continued its military actions without pause, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha. The ceasefire was meant to begin on Monday, as agreed upon by Ukrainian and European officials.
In a statement on X, Sybiha revealed that he had engaged in discussions with European ministers in London. The focus was on actions that could be enacted against Russia, especially targeting its banking and energy sectors. Potential moves include new sanctions and support for Ukraine through enhanced defense aid packages.
Sybiha also held a conference call with European foreign ministers and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The key agenda was determining the next viable steps for peace negotiations, as diplomatic channels push to defuse escalating tensions.
