Manipur Delegation Demands Roadmap for Crisis Resolution

A delegation of Manipur civil society groups met with central government officials in Delhi to discuss a time-bound roadmap to address the state's crisis. They emphasized the need for territorial integrity, resettlement of displaced persons, implementation of NRC, and attention to the Gwaltabi incident.

A delegation representing Manipur's civil society groups has urged the central government to create a time-bound roadmap to tackle the crisis in the northeastern state. The group, comprising the Coordinating Committee (COCOMI), All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), and the Federation of Civil Society (FOCS), met with top officials in Delhi.

Discussions during the three-and-a-half-hour meeting centered on developing sustainable solutions and ensuring the state's territorial integrity. The delegation also called for a plan to resettle internally displaced persons within the year and the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) to manage illegal immigration effectively.

The civil society groups stressed the necessity of addressing the incident in Gwaltabi, where Manipur's name was erased from a government bus, and raised concerns regarding farmers' safety. The Ministry of Home Affairs officials assured that the issues presented were under consideration and would be forwarded to relevant authorities.
