India is intensifying efforts to extradite billionaire fugitives sought by its authorities from the UK, according to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Modi stressed the importance of collaborative work between Indian and UK agencies on this matter.
Extradition has been a key topic between the two nations, especially concerning figures like Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Lalit Modi. These individuals are implicated in major financial offenses and have been living in the UK to evade legal proceedings in India.
Specifically, Nirav Modi is pursued for his role in the USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank fraud, while Vijay Mallya faces charges linked to Rs 9,000 crore in unpaid loans tied to Kingfisher Airlines. Lalit Modi is wanted for alleged money laundering and violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act.
