A National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court in Bengaluru sentenced three men to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for their roles in the 2020 violent mob attack on the KG Halli police station. The verdict was announced on Thursday.
The convicted individuals, Syed Ikramuddin, Syed Asif, and Mohammed Atif, are supporters of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which serves as the political arm of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI). Besides the prison sentences, the court also imposed fines on the convicts.
The attack involved a mob of approximately 600-800 people who targeted the police station after a derogatory Facebook post about Prophet Mohammed. The NIA's investigation revealed that the trio used inflammable substances to damage public and private property, incurring nearly Rs 14 lakh in damages.
