CBI Probes Cash-for-Query Scandal Involving Mahua Moitra

The CBI has submitted a report to the Lokpal concerning allegations of corruption against MP Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The case, initiated last year, involves accusations that Moitra accepted bribes from Hiranandani to compromise parliamentary privileges and share login credentials, posing national security concerns.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a report with the Lokpal regarding the cash-for-query scam alleged against Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra and businessman Darshan Hiranandani, officials confirmed on Monday.

The CBI had registered an FIR on March 21, 2022, following claims Moitra engaged in corrupt practices, including accepting bribes from Hiranandani, compromising her parliamentary duties by sharing confidential Lok Sabha credentials.

These actions allegedly threatened national security. The Lokpal received findings from the CBI inquiry and will decide further actions. Moitra, expelled from the Lok Sabha in December 2023 for unethical conduct, is contesting this decision in the Supreme Court. Despite the controversy, she won re-election in 2024, defeating BJP's Amrita Roy.
