U.S. Proposal for Lebanon: A Path to Disarmament and Peace
The U.S. has proposed a plan to disarm Hezbollah, end Israeli military operations, and withdraw troops from Lebanon. The plan includes detailed phases for disarmament, deployment of Lebanese forces, and resolution of prisoner issues. It aims to stabilize the ceasefire and promote Lebanese economic reconstruction.
The United States has presented Lebanon with a comprehensive plan to disarm Hezbollah by the end of the year. This proposal also seeks to end Israel's military presence and operations in Lebanon, aiming for a peaceful resolution in the region. The agenda, reviewed by Reuters, outlines detailed measures targeting the Iran-backed group.
The plan, introduced by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack during a Lebanese cabinet meeting, has been partially approved. It outlines disarming non-state actors, bolstering Lebanese forces, and resolving border issues with Israel. Despite growing calls for Hezbollah's disarmament post-conflict, the group has yet to comment.
Israel's withdrawal from key positions and an improved Lebanese force deployment are central to the plan, highlighting a phased approach to peace and stability by year's end. An economic conference is also intended to catalyze Lebanon's economic recovery, reinforcing President Trump's vision for a prosperous Lebanon.
