North West Premier Kagiso Lazarus Mokgosi will lead the launch of Phase 5 of the Accelerated Service Delivery Programme – Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded, reaffirming the provincial government’s commitment to addressing service delivery challenges and improving community livelihoods. The flagship event is scheduled for Friday, 22 August 2025, at Ditsobotla Local Municipality in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District.
Building on Service Delivery Gains
According to the provincial government, Phase 5 represents a strategic continuation of earlier efforts to bring integrated services directly to communities. It seeks to accelerate interventions in water supply, sanitation, road maintenance, crime prevention, job creation, and environmental management.
Premier Mokgosi emphasized that Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded is not just a government-driven programme but a people-centered initiative designed to strengthen public participation and foster accountability in governance.
Key Municipalities Targeted
This phase will target several municipalities where service delivery concerns are most pressing. These include:
-
Ditsobotla
-
JB Marks
-
City of Matlosana
-
Tswaing
-
Madibeng
-
Kagisano-Molopo
-
Ramotshere Moiloa
-
Moses Kotane
-
Rustenburg
-
Mahikeng
Through coordinated action across these localities, the provincial government aims to restore confidence in municipal structures and improve everyday living conditions.
Bringing Services Closer to the People
On the day, government departments, State-owned entities, and private sector partners will converge at Itsoseng Community Hall to provide on-the-spot services. These will include access to primary healthcare, free basic services registration, and agricultural support initiatives. A community feedback session will also be held, allowing residents to voice concerns and suggestions.
Handing Over Community Facilities
As part of the day’s programme, several new or upgraded facilities will be officially handed over to communities. These include:
-
A community hall at Springbokpan village
-
A sports facility at Itekeng township in Biesiesvlei
-
A community hall at Tlhabologang in Coligny
-
A new cemetery site in Itsoseng
The facilities are expected to strengthen social cohesion, create safe recreational spaces, and provide dignified amenities for local residents.
Reviving Brick-Making Plants for Jobs and Skills
The event will also feature an oversight visit to a brick-making plant in Itsoseng, originally established by the Department of Public Works and Roads (DPWR) during the 2014/15 financial year. While the facility once created jobs under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), operations were halted more than three years ago due to resource and management challenges.
As part of a new intervention, the provincial government plans to revive brick-making plants across the North West Province to make them sustainable job-creating enterprises. The resuscitated facilities will not only boost employment but also provide vital materials for local infrastructure projects.
To demonstrate this commitment, more than 4,000 paving bricks produced by EPWP beneficiaries are set to be donated to the Ditsobotla Local Municipality. These bricks will be used to pave access roads leading to service delivery points and community streets.
Roads, Lighting and Clean Communities
Infrastructure upgrades remain a central feature of Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded. Premier Mokgosi’s team will conduct an inspection of road D40, from Thusong to Itsoseng, where a special maintenance project is underway.
Other activities planned include:
-
Installation of high-mast lights to improve safety in communities
-
Clearing of illegal dumping sites to promote a cleaner environment
-
Law enforcement initiatives to strengthen crime prevention
-
Distribution of agricultural packages to support a community farming project and a local school
-
Provision of integrated primary healthcare services, ensuring that residents can access health support close to home
-
Distribution of sanitary towels to identified schools, promoting dignity for young learners
A People-Centered Approach
The Thuntsha Lerole Reloaded programme continues to serve as a symbol of integrated governance, combining the efforts of provincial departments, municipalities, State-owned entities, and the private sector to deliver tangible results.
Premier Mokgosi stressed that Phase 5 is about more than service provision—it is about restoring trust between government and communities. By creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and enhancing accountability, the provincial government hopes to chart a new course in community development.
