In Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, local authorities have shifted control of the Imambara at Hatwada to the Public Works Department (PWD) as directed by a court ruling, according to police reports on Thursday.
The transfer has sparked controversy, with the Muslim Tazia committee filing a petition in the Supreme Court opposing the decision. The property, historically used for Islamic gatherings and Muharram ceremonies, was handed over amidst heightened security measures.
The move stems from demands by the Sanskritik Dharohar Raksha Manch Samiti, a right-wing Hindu group, which claims the building was government property misused by the Tazia committee. Legal proceedings are ongoing as tensions remain high.
