China's embassy in New Zealand has formally protested what it describes as "harassment" of its citizens by New Zealand airport security. This complaint is centered around an incident involving a traveler forced to hand over electronic devices.
The embassy cited "harassment and interrogation without cause" by New Zealand's security officials, further alleging that some confiscated devices were not returned. It has called on New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to address the issue.
New Zealand's foreign ministry responded, affirming that all travelers must comply with the nation's laws related to national and border security, which are applied indiscriminately, without regard to nationality.
