A Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector and a civilian have been apprehended on charges of accepting a bribe worth Rs 7,000 in exchange for the release of a seized motorcycle, as reported by officials on Friday.

According to the complainant, Hitesh from Neb Sarai, his motorcycle was brought to the Mehrauli police station by ASI PR Meena after a minor dispute. The officer allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 for the release, later settling for Rs 7,000. Hitesh backed his allegations with call recordings of the negotiations, prompting a further police investigation.

The Vigilance Unit orchestrated a sting operation using phenolphthalein-coated notes to trap the bribe-takers. The currency was handed to Md Shakir, a salon worker, who allegedly passed it to ASI Meena within the police station. Both were arrested as officials seized the tainted currency and an FIR was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The accused are due to appear in court soon.
