Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday accused local extremists of plotting to plant explosives at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas. Maduro claims these actions are part of a false flag operation designed to incriminate his government and escalate tensions.

The initial report of the plot surfaced on Sunday when National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez mentioned the alleged plans on social media. According to Rodriguez, the threats were communicated to U.S. authorities through multiple channels, alerting them along with an unnamed European embassy.

Despite severing diplomatic ties with the U.S. in 2019, Venezuela increased security presence around the U.S. Embassy, acting on intelligence from domestic and international sources. The U.S. administration was reportedly informed, although they have not yet commented on the matter as investigations unfold.
