Supreme Court Reviews Urgent Plea on Waqf Property Registration Extension

The Supreme Court will hear AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi's plea on October 28, seeking an extension for registering waqf properties on the UMEED portal. The court previously put certain provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, on hold, but refused to stay the entire law.

The Supreme Court is slated to deliberate on October 28 over a plea submitted by AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who seeks an extension for the mandatory registration of waqf properties under the UMEED portal.

Nizam Pasha, Owaisi's legal representative, urged the court for urgent consideration as the six-month deadline looms. A similar petition was also mentioned, prompting the bench, led by Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran, to consider listing it for hearing.

The court had earlier temporarily suspended specific provisions of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025. The UMEED portal requires all waqf properties to be geo-tagged and digitally registered within six months from June 6.
