The Election Commission is accelerating its preparations for a nationwide special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists, assessing progress made on aligning current electors with previous records.
This revision aims to refine the voter list, primarily to exclude illegal foreign migrants by verifying places of birth. Election Commissioners and state electoral officers are meeting to ensure a smooth rollout.
To avoid overlap, states with upcoming local body elections will be temporarily exempt. In areas like Bihar, where updates have already been completed, the next phase of the nationwide initiative will soon be underway.
