The Poseidon is described by both U.S. and Russian officials as a new type of retaliatory weapon, capable of unleashing radioactive ocean swells to render coastal regions uninhabitable. The test, as reported by Putin, was conducted on Tuesday.

During a talk with soldiers wounded in the Ukraine war, Putin stated, "For the first time, we managed not only to launch it with a launch engine from a carrier submarine, but also to launch the nuclear power unit on which this device passed a certain amount of time." He further noted that the power of the Poseidon surpasses the Sarmat intercontinental missile, highlighting the test as a major success.
