In a significant move toward inclusivity, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai's six-month tenure saw the appointment of judges from various backgrounds, including the Scheduled Caste, Other Backward Classes, and minority communities. His leadership of the collegium resulted in 93 appointments from the 129 recommendations made to the government.

CJI Gavai, who was the first Buddhist and second Dalit to head India's judiciary, achieved notable advancements during his tenure. His initiatives included profound legal decisions, such as halting key aspects of the Waqf law and striking down the tribunal reforms statute. His term also witnessed the induction of five Supreme Court judges, enhancing the court's judicial strength.

As CJI Gavai prepares to step down on November 23, he leaves behind a legacy marked by commitment and a drive for justice. After a distinguished career in law and as the 52nd Chief Justice of India, he expressed satisfaction with the milestones reached and welcomed his successor, Justice Surya Kant, who will be sworn in on November 24.
