A candidate from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State Party (SP) and 20 others are facing legal action after allegedly staging a protest at a sensitive electoral site in Beed district, Maharashtra.
The incident in question occurred outside the Parli Vaijnath Municipal Council building, where electronic voting machines (EVMs) are stored following recent municipal elections. Police filed the case on Friday, asserting the demonstrators violated the election conduct code.
Inspector Raghunath Nachan pointed out that despite the imposition of prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), the group of protesters, who gathered unlawfully on Wednesday night, refused to leave upon police instruction.
