In a significant operation, two individuals from Assam were apprehended in Manipur's Jiribam district with drugs worth nearly Rs 12.5 crore, officials announced. This incident, reported on Sunday, underscores ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
The arrest occurred during a joint operation conducted by the Manipur Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Assam Rifles on Friday. The suspects, Rajib Hussain Mazumder of Ranighat and Sahar Alom Mazumder of Dubang in Assam's Cachar district, were caught transporting contraband from Leingangpokpi in Jiribam.
Seized during the operation were 50,000 tablets marked WY/R, weighing 5.185 kilograms. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh lauded the operation's success, emphasizing the ongoing need for vigilance to secure a drug-free Manipur. Security forces are committed to safeguarding youth and upholding the state's integrity.
